Pharmacy Technician

Pharmacy Technician (360 Hours)

A Pharmacy Technician is a licensed individual who works directly under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to perform various duties including: preparing and processing medical insurance claims and records, preparing medications, compounding, and maintenance of patient records. A pharmacy technician can work in a variety of settings such as: hospitals, clinics, community pharmacies, specialty pharmacies, and home health care operations. The classes consist of lectures and hands-on practical training. UBATC’s program fulfills the Utah State Board of Pharmacy requirements for program content and length.

  • Monday – Thursday 8:30 am -12:30 pm
  • 180 Clinical hours need to be completed after school and on weekends and must be finished by February 2018

  • Pass a Background Check
  • Pass Random Drug Screening

LICENSURE REQUIRMENTS

After graduation, to work in Utah as a pharmacy technician, students must become certified by taking a national exam from either the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT). Then, a license can be obtained through DOPL.

After some time working in a pharmacy, some techs use the experience as a stepping-stone to return to school and become a licensed pharmacist, or to pursue other healthcare related fields.

  • Pass a State Approved National Exam
  •  Pay Licensure Fees

INTERNSHIP

An internship is part of the core courses which consists of 180 hours. This training opportunity will give the student an on-the-job experience. which will be valuable in gaining employment.
